I'm having the same issue. I have installed JoomlaComment 3.26 on Joomla 1.5.7 and the Captcha is not showing.

Daniel, I appreciate your quick response. I googled for "install GD library" and found:
php_gd2.dll ... is not enabled by default. To turn it on, the user may simply uncomment the line "extension=php_gd2.dll" in php.ini and restart the PHP extension.

Is this correct way to install GD? I contacted support of my hosting company (jiffynet.net) asking them to enable GD for me (since I could not locate php.ini).

Would you correct me if installation of GD should be performed differently?

This is the right way to perform the installation.
What you need too beside the GD library is the freetype library( www.freetype.org/ )

I have sent an inquiry to the hosting support. Btw, while waiting for their assistance with GD library, I have two questions:
1) howto install FreeType 2.3.8 on the host web site? (hopefully their support will be able to do it)
2) are you planning to implement different types of Captcha? It could be nice in order to reduce risk of breaking it.

Look at the server error log and also check the threads in the forum about captcha problems.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagettfbbox() in means that the GD library is not installed. Look in your php info(in joomla's backend) do you find gd library there?
